The St. Louis River/Interlake/Duluth Tar (SLRIDT) Superfund Site is located in Duluth Minnesota, on the St. Louis River, about four miles from its confluence with Lake Superior. From 1894 to 1960, the adjacent land was used to manufacture and refine coal tar and produce manufactured gas. During that period, contaminants were discharged to Stryker Bay (14 hectares, 1.5 meters deep) and two industrial slips (each 5-6 hectares, 8 meters deep) known as Slip 6 and Slip 7.
